MG ZT 160 upgrade?
Hello,
I have a general question about the MG ZT 160 k series model. Due to my workplace will be change, I really need a petrol car and I'm thinking on an MG ZT 160. I read alot about HGF issues and I'm a little worried. My question is: If i buy the Ultimate K series Headgasket kit from DMGRS, do I need to worry about having HGF failure in the future? Thanks, D. |

Do you really need a petrol ? a diesel with a 160 remap would be a great all rounder

If you buy one, it doesn’t mean the head gasket will blow!
If the head gasket needs changing on a k series you must measure the cylinder liners when the head is off to determine the best gasket to fit. Read some posts on here regarding the k series, if looked after they are a great engine.

It's only a 12 mi trip and it's not really suitable for a diesel on a long run, expecially on winter time. Here we can reach 0 °F with ease. So that is why i would like to change. I also have to calculate with traffic jams.

Best man to speak to about the ZT 1.8T (160) is Bob (Flying Banana). His ZT160 is now well over 200k miles.

Having the diesel.means youhave that torque for the feeling of power during those shorter runs. Then when you do get a long run, the mpg will go higher than the petrol. The only issue would be the engine temp warm.up time, will mean that you may have a colder cabin for more of the 12 mile journey. But then that is what a pre heater would be for (and cost less than 500) Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk

MG ZT 160 upgrade?
Don’t forget some diesels are fitted with the webasto heater so you can get into a nice warm car in the morning before you even start the engine.

If treated correctly, water and oil checked every time the car is used, then the K series is a good engine. I would love to get another one but then I would have to part with my V8.
My current mileage on my 160, 1.8t, is 214,600 miles.
