Look on the bright side. Shortages and resulting queues may get those who never get off their backsides onto their feet for a while, if only to stand in a queue.

The less purchased, the lower the pollution.

The less food available, the less weight we gain.

Think positively and you can find a silver lining in every cloud!

I think I will email the local news to let them know.

Our daughter got a letter from the DFT yesterday asking if she was interested in HGV job opportunities as she has a HGV licence for horse transporting.

I'm surprised none of the news outlets have picked up on the level of fill issue at petroi stations.
It used to be that petrol station tanks were kept full, partly to minimise the effect of condensation.
Now the "just in time" mob have made sure that the least practical amount of fuel is kept in stock, this resulted in some stations running out when they needn't have.
Petrol suppliers could, if they wished, use the pfs tanks as storage instead of keeping it in the refineries.
The crisis appears to have happened because a small number of stations ran out, people panicked and caused a run which emptied many stations.
No use blaming people for panicking, I am retired now, but if I was still working my priority would be to ensure that I had enough fuel to enable me to work as I am sure most people on here would do.

I've been travelling around the northwest and now into the Midlands and have obtained diesel without any real issue other than a few vehicles queuing at filling stations. Filled up at Teso Ashby De La Zouch yesterday at £1.31 a litre.
Seems to me that like most panic buying situations this is yet another one that has been instigated by the media. Maybe someone could get the BBC and newspapers to announce a Rover 75 shortage and get the value of your cars trippled overnight.

The fuel situation looks to have eased a little, still a little worrying as it could flare up again. I’m afraid we are going to be hit with shortages in a number of areas. I was in our supermarket yesterday and would say the stock was at about 60% on the shelves. On a positive note, Australia is starting to talk about international travel at some point in the future. We still have flights booked to NZ on late January, I’m not too hopeful even though we have family there as the UK is regarded as high risk country. Things can change so we are hanging in there with the flights.

Warwick services on the M40 were charging 1.57 a litre of unleaded last Sunday.

Whilst the great British public are out there one only has to mention a possible shortage of an item/product to see them falling head over heels to buy up the stock. If a trader has excess stock of anything, it might be worth advertising potential shortages of it in the future.

I have heard that there is a marmite shortage also lemon shortage you can also bet your bottom dollar the petrol staions will be in no hurry to lower the price of fuel either, so win win for them.
