Water leak in the boot
In the list of things to do, I had all the boot out on the weekend to dry it out due to water. Last one of these I had was easy, light seals, but this one is proving to be different.
I know leaks can be a pain to trace, the light seals look like they've been replaced and in good nick, I couldn't see any obvious runs from the side (although I haven't taken the parking sensor bits out yet to examine there). So The car was bone dry, mat cleaned and ready for rain. Living in Wales, I didn't have to wait long and it rained that night. I went back to the boot the next morning and the boot mat was wet, it seemed to be centre spreading out rather than sides going in and just to the rear below the window. Without being too assumptive, I'm thinking either boot seal or window? With the boot lid open, I did try a couple of buckets of water, but there were no runs as I couldn't pour too hard as it would just splash over the top and give a false indication. Any thoughts?

Rear window clips, just look under the boot skin below the window & you'll see the clips, like little plastic pins, apply loads of sealant to each one, then, around the rear window rubber, lift it slightly, & either, run a bead of sealant around or, some Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure, works wonders

Boot Skin
Is the boot skin you refer to, the flap of rubber beneath the window seal, or something in the boot on the 'ceiling' of it for instance - Picture?

Water leak in the boot
Another source of water ingress can be the clip holes for the external horizontal chrome trim strips. I used Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure, but silicone sealer applied from the inside would solve it , though access is difficult.

Rear trim leak to giving th spare wheel th swimming pool effect. Requires side panels out though to remove caps. Then mastic. Or captain trolleys if you prefer th easy life. Lastly. A new one for me. Th boot hinges weirdly leaked were it bolts through to th body. But were you say yours is getting damp id say it was window clips. Good luck. |
