Default Electrical problems

Hi', I got caught in a flood a couple of days ago in my Rover 2002 75 diesel Connoisseur and now my electrics have gone troublesome. The key fob won't operate the door locks, the indicators are playing up and I get an ER message on my heater control. is it possible I have flooded the ECU and can I do anything to solve the problem please. Can I change the ECU if that turns out to be the problem and if so does it need to be done by a professional please. I cleaned out the plenum a couple of months ago.

Hi,

Take a look at this link and scroll down to see causes for the ER message - not your ECU - but the Kanbus - and possibly your light switch module that controls the lights.

Do your front door window switches work correctly or are they reversed?

Hi thanks but what and where is the Kanbus please and is that the same as a K-bus. I had no idea I had one of those. I have disconnected the battery and reconnected it but the problems have come back. The window switches are working fine but the problem has happened before especially when i turn on the AC.

As in the supplied link, if you have a fuel burning heater try disconnecting that or make your way down to Newton Abbot and visit Exeter Road Garage where they have a Rover diagnostic T4 computer. They are listed under the traders menu.

Hi John,

You say the problem has happened before. Do you mean before you were caught in the flood? If yes then it sounds like a K-bus fault. But if I were you I would uncover the plenum chamber to check that the drains aren't blocked. The ECM sits in there and the BCU (which controls much of the equipment you've mentioned) is vulnerable to water ingress behind the passenger side glovebox.

I'm very grateful for all of the above advice and I am systematically going through all of the advice however I need to know where is the K-Bus please. So far I understand that it is probably underneath the carpet but where under the carpet please so that I can determine if it is showing any sign of corrosion or water ingress.

I have since found previous posts on here that relate exactly to the same problems that I am having so to explain the symptoms which can work and fail sporadically are:

* No indicator or headlight tell tale on the dash
* Climate control shows Er where temp should be
* Boot won't open
* Car won't lock from fob (unlocks fine)

I repeat Please where is the K-Bus module and should I can start disconcerting cables or is that too dangerous.

Hi John,

The full beam warning light not appearing confirms it's the K-bus. Read through this thread and post no. 15 will tell you what to do.

Thank you very much Simon, I have read the item you told me to but Please where exactly can I find the K-bus module please, the article does not tell me where to find it. I want to check first to see if there is any signs of damp but I don't know where to look for it.

You will find the K-Bus is not a module, but the way the various ECU communicate with one another.

I shall stand aside and allow someone with more experience of these things to explain further.
