Default Alternator wheel bearing mad whining..1.8T ZT-T

Got a alternator that sems to work fine but got a crazy noise comming form the wheel where belt runs...

Are these possible to change and where do I source them?

Or is It easier to just change the whole alternator..

Easier to swap the alternator I’m afraid.

Most electrical repair shops could very easily and quickly fit a new bearing.

That is pretty unlucky - the alternator bearings are usually bullet proof. When the slip rings wore out on mine the bearings were still fine at over 300k miles.

I had an alternator bearing fail on a long journey home. A whining started which i couldn't pin point straightaway, 40 miles later the engine stalled on a low speed corner, at first I thought the engine had seized, it was jammed solid.
Next day I discovered that the alternator bearing had disintegrated the debris had locked it solid. It was hard to believe that the auxillary drive belt was strong enough to stop the engine rather than snap. New unit was the only option for me.

I'll remember that day well when the 'caring' RAC left two pensioners for 11 hours in the middle of nowhere in winter waiting for a service van, deeming several breakdowns on the motorway higher priority. 'Don't worry mate we know the L series diesel engine in the 75 well, we'll swap the alternator in next to no time' !! Needless to say I now use an alternative service provider.
