Update if you're interested. All off and eventually I found the N/S horn black lead spade crimp connection had almost parted so it was making/breaking for the least reason, just couldn't see it inside the sleeve. Thanks for the suggestions, all working fine now...and I took the opportunity to elongate the crash bar/slam panel holes to adjust the bumper/front wing shut line; not bad result for a quick stab at one of the recommended improvements.
Oh dear, and I overlooked reconnecting the headlight plugs - will this never end.
