Default Front Brake Calipers

Morning all, well it's been a long time since I've had to post here, the car has been going well (apart froma few niggles which have been sorted).

I've had a few braking issues recently, mostly caused by rear calipers seizing on! All fixed, calipers repalced with new ones, handbrake back to 2 click operation (back plate needs replacing on drivers side, but that's for another day).

However, I had the tracking done a few weeks ago (straightened the wheel etc) and a new tyre on, all good. New pads and discs fitted a week later, local garage, not me. After getting the car, I had a vibration (like balance) from 50-70 which was more noticable when the car was cold than hot. I figured it may be a bedding issue, but front right drivers is warmer than the rest.

I'm gonna strip it all down, I figure I may just swap out the calipers, but on the bay of eveil, every new set the have say they are petrol only and not diesel? I thought unless you are going 190 or bigger, they were the same?

Can anyone shed any light on this or what I should be looking at?

Thanks, stay safe all. Sean

Apart from the 180 and 190 V6 system, all the other models have identical brakes.

Sean,

I have noted pads jamming in the carriers - often due to a build up of brake dust etc. in the grooves which the ears of the pad slide into. If those aren't properly cleaned out and greased with a suitable ceramic grease (or copperslip / lithium grease at least) then the pads could jam and then give some odd behaviour.

When I first got my ZT-T it appears that had happened and on one side on the front, one pad was completely worn but the other side had jammed and was worn at an angle but only slightly...must have jammed soon after fitting by a garage.

Could there be an issue with disc run-out...maybe a tiny bit of something trapped between hub face and disc when fitting causing some slight wobble of the disc? Is there any wobble or vibration felt when braking?

Hope you find the answer is just clean and re-fit things?.

Jonty

I'm going to strip it and have a brush first, great tip, thanks!

So I stripped the front caliper down, very rusty. Rust and carbon on the piston. Scrubbed as much off as I could, took the pads out, scrubbed the carrier and slides. Copper crest all over the slides and pad hooks and faces.

Got the piston out a little, cleaned as best I could (not much admitedly), pushed piston back in and re-assembled.

Took her for a run, perfect, vibration. gone. Wheel still a tiny bit hotter than the other side, braking evenly, but not like before. Stands for a day, took it out for a 5 mile run again (nearest shops as I'm quite rural), vibration back (not as bad, but back. Wheel hot again! Time to try and find a caliper as I'm sure it must be pinching on a touch and not retracting once it gets hot.....

You need proper caliper grease on the slider pins, not coppaslip. I made the same mistake last year.

Yeah, the slider pins I left, I meant the bit of the carrier and caliper where the hook of the pads sit, just to make sure.

I was gonna buy one of the kits, but last time I used one, it made no difference. It's a nightmare searchin for parts as everything has a "surcharge" on for sending the old one back! It's nadgered, doubt it would pass their return
