That is a very expensive way to have a mobile you make little use of.

I use Giffgaff PAYYG. I put £10 credit on it 5 years ago, I rarely use it and I still have around £9.50 credit on it. I think they say you have to use it as a minimum once every 6 months.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

A contract phone can be better value than a payg phone if you get the right price and which at least offsets what you tend to spend on landline calls. I took the plunge last year and opted for a £5/mth contract which does the job for me and gives peace of mind about the service not being terminated as per payg. This combined with its internet access, camera/pics and other options which I've yet to look at and use have served to render the landline pretty much redundant for outgoing calls. In fact the landline now is really only a conduit for broadband and the occasional incoming call.

Orange sequestrated my payg account many moons ago due to lack of use. They trousered over £30 of the credit balance too and the fact that they were allowed to do that and maybe still could do so today speaks volumes about the lack of decent regulation in the utility markets. That type of practice is only acceptable in the minds of the expenses fiddlers and the characters they preside over the appointment of who are in many if not most cases but another cheek of the same fat backside.

My landline calls to both landlines and mobile are inclusive, though I rarely use any of the 2000 minutes to mobiles.

I apart from works phones, on a contract work has paid, I have never wanted or owned a contract phone. I'm one of those people who tries hard to minimise regular monthly payments, because they add up. I don't mind paying for something as and when I use it.

I too was caught out by a mobile data deal which cost me £30 with a certain provider in the early days, I forget which company, but their coverage was dire. It was a matter of use it regularly or lose the lot. They refused to reinstate it and they lost me as a customer for life.

Just tried my mobile after following their instructions the other day & it's still locked out with the message ' all calls from this phone are barred' I've switched it off and put it away before I dropkick it.

I sent another email to ASDA this morning as it still wasn't working saying all numbers from this phone are barred They've just got back to me saying they've refreshed my account again. Just tried it and it works.

Two SMS text messages telling me my account was back on line (it wasn't) turned up tonight, two days after ASDA sent them lol

All working fine again now, I just have to remember to use it every now & again to keep my PAYG account active.

If they are on PAYG they have to be taken out, then used for a call, or they become disconnected..
