I bought a MAC tools 3/8’s drive gun a few months ago, powerful enough to remove some wheel nuts but generally just used for under trays and light work. I can’t add photos to the forum via my iPhone or iPad but it’s a nice piece of kit

I'm borrowing a Clarke's driver tomorrow to release the driveshaft/hub nuts on my CDT, having bent my Kamasa tommy bar with extension "cheat" tube trying. I may invest in one, if suitably impressed. Or a proper breaker bar, at least.

One word of warning when using a rattle gun for this particular job, wear gloves, and pad the handle with cloth.

So how much was your Black and Decker impact gun?

As Trikey pointed out, Black and Decker at Spennymoor once employed thousands of people manufacturing millions of quality tools.

In the name of progress, production was moved overseas to the PRC, as you can produce junk over there, and as long as it's wearing the correct logo people will buy it.

I very much doubt Chris's new rattle gun will last as long as my "Made in England" Black and Decker electric drill, and I look forward to seeing what the development of 130 houses by Wimpey, as part of the "DurhamGate" development on the former B&D site will provide to future generations of local people in terms of employment in highly skilled professions

Manufacturing is the backbone of the economy, not service industries, banking, speculation in the housing market or importing tat from China

Hmmmm My father bought one when he was in his third year serving his time as a spark, (that'll be 1968), to replace his auger (imagine rewiring council houses with an auger and a cold chisel ). Ridiculous quality. Has spent the last 37 years residing in a shed when not being used, and it packed up last year! Typical! Built in obsolescence, I tell ya!

I totally agree, unfortunately the UK is about to committ to further reducing our manufacturing base.

No, no it's not. How can a collective of nations reduce a manufacturing base that it does not own? That statement is just another attempt to bring up brexit.

Lamenting the fall of quality products that was caused by greed is not the same as nation using a democratic process to get what the majority want.
