Contesting an mot isnt as easy as you think. I once bought a Merc in my youth. I had little car experience and as the mot was new I didnt roll under. 4 weeks later I discovered the car virtually had no floor. By the time I had made calls and gone through the procedures I was told the same as Brian suggests. An mot doesnt cover the car for 12 months of safety and the structural time limit had passed. Basically they werent bothered. I rang the previous owner after some digging and shed sent it for scrap! Im a bit more cautious these days!
