What is certain from web searches is that the BMW/Rover 75 have a problem other cars do not have. We need to admit that and properly understand it.
For example some BMW owners say a BMW garages said the fuel cap solenoid /actuator was playing up and confusing the central locking system. Others doubt that. I have not long got rid of cars 20+ years old and 15+ years old and they were just not the problem in far more severe conditions. With some of the cars we would park in most exposed location in severe snow and ice and need them to work as we came off the mountains after long periods getting cold and exhausted. It is not reasonable to dare risk taking a BMW/Rover 75 to such places that we have been taking most other cars. But I agree the Rover 75 is not the only vehicle with troubles another newer vehicle has a big leak problem as well:- https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/516849...airs-millions/ Last edited by Ed3; 19th December 2017 at 04:55.. |

Remember many years ago car locks frozen up, we would heat the key with cig lighter and put it in the lock..as said wd 40, lubricate, wonder if a 12 volt hair dryer might help for £11.

A car cover, even the cheap ones will help. It helps create a barrier to the frost/ice cold air getting to the locks. I have the kind that covers the cabin only but it comes down enough to cover the locks.
Also, if you want to take the risk, leave the cars unlocked!

16 years old and I have never had a frozen lock. Car has never been kept in a garage either. White grease lubrication on all exposed lock parts and a drip of oil for good luck.

Thanks. Where exactly do you put the grease? And do you use a tool to spread it etc ?

Rear doors not closing
I encountered this problem last night on my 2003 in a hard frost of -1C. Repeated attempts failed to get it closed, even after running the car engine for 15mins with the interior heater on & blasting the door catch with warm air from a another source.
I had to abort the non-essential journey & manually lock each door individually from the inside & the drivers door on the exterior key lock, on this occasion. I need this car for shift work so it's not acceptable. I've ordered a car hair dryer & WD40 the locks but I find this bizarre. Has anyone found a more permanent solution? Thanks, Matty |
