Default European Breakdown Cover

Have just seen on the RAC European breakdown cover application form that you can get a quote for all repatriation costs as an option, not just up to the value of the car.

Useful if you want to ensure that your car will be repatriated in the event of a breakdown.

Hi

I thought if your car was over 10 years old, they would not cover you?

Regards

Yes - it now appears as an option over and above the normal cover up to the car's value. In the case of my Omega which is 19 years old, the option would add about £30 to the cost of one week's comprehensive European cover i.e. total of £132.

If you don't mind, who you using, want breakdown cover for when I go to the Nurnberg ring in my 2001 BMW 330ci, and since I am taking my wife this time, would like to get breakdown cover!

Regards

Barry

With the RAC Barry here.

I was surprised they cover older cars too, but I put the registration number in and it was accepted.

That's spot on, £150 for my 2 week trip, or £260 for annual. Perfect.

cheers!

I pay RAC for family cover + european for everyone ... it's not cheap, but they are covering all the family on any of our cars/vans/motorbikes or our friends cars/vans/motorbikes (if we're passenger) anywhere in europe.

I did have to call them out in France last year when I flattened the battery on Easter Sunday, they were brilliant and never questioned the age of the car.

I usually take my classic car into Europe every year. When its value was quite low they would just add £20 or so to the premium for guaranteed repatriation. One of the reps explained to me that in there view once cars are over a certain age they are often owned by enthusiasts so are usually well maintained and are less likely to need recovery unless involved in accident. He also told me that the cars that usually get recovered are the newer ones that are more difficult to repair in the time frame before there owner is due to return home.
