I would be tempted to fit one first before looking at any connector problems

Coding is not a big issue all that happens is the GM SA and VN codes common to your car are uploaded to the replacement ECU so for example it knows if you have traction control or not, 15 minutes work and 30 minutes labour charge on T4 max
But if you just replace the ECU and not the valve / pump assembly you won't need to bleed anything.

Thank you all for looking on the bright side. But the garage said, it still may not fix the fault. To be honest, I'm sick that I've paid over £260 on fault finding and got no where. I will have a print up tomorrow from the garage (I asked for that), I will post it in this thread word for word tomorrow evening.
I'm sure there are cheaper options available to me, but I've not been told 100% what the fault really is. Garage saying the abs ecu not communicating with pump, possible crack on board, again it's that word "possible", that's an expensive word for fault finding. I'm gutted, really I am. If I had your confidence and knowledge I may of gone and tried a second hand one. Just can't really afford to spend too much more money! I still in need of a car, so if someone want to do a swap I'd be interested and happy to know its gone to one of you. Just let me know what car you have. I wish it was good news today, but as soon as I heard, I thought that was it! I can't afford to get a second opinion, so I have to believe what they are telling me. They charge me £15 every time they do a diagnostic! Real shame

Sorry wasn't meant to sound like criticism.

I was just pointing out that the job is much easier of you don't change the whole assembly

Any use ?

Is it the correct bit?

It's the right bit, but seems to have had some serious modification. That's the whole pump / valve / ECU assembly on ABS 5.

Never seen the wires going under the valve block to the motor before, and the ECU is completely black normally.

These ABS systems tend to be similar, even identical, on all cars, there are only a few manufacturers of this equipment, (did I hear the name Bosch mentioned ?), so faults like this can and will occur on ANY car with ABS. SO off-load the 75 if you must, but the replacement you buy will have ABS, and probably the same manufacturer and you could have the same fault yet again.

Better to get the car checked by a specialist in braking systems, or even check with Bosch themselves. The second-hand route sounds the best and most economic way forward.

Ok, here is exactly what the fault paperwork reads:

ABS Fault
Check Fault Codes
1:-Valve Control Relay (intermitent)
2:-Pump (constant)
Cleared codes run self test - Pump Failed
Remove battery carrier etc. to gain access to ABS
ECU/pump remove ECU from valve block
Test ECU
ECU is testing the circuit of the motor but does not power it up
Load test heavy pos into ECU - ok at the time of test
Ran test on ECU with it removed - failed
Advise customer ECU faulty parts only available from Rover
Refit all vehicle at Customers request

Not sure if that sheds any more light? Funny, today the abs light went out. Then came on again later. Seems like a small problem, but they never are, are they?

No I haven't asked anyone. Don't think its an easy fix and not everyone has the t4 to test car afterwards. Thanks all the same though. Really wished I could fix it, but funds are running low, and this don't sound like a cheap fix
