Other European countries may have them, but they are able to use them in lieu of passports - which under the proposals we would not be able to do, also they are issued for free where as our government wanted to charge us about £60 each for one!

Would the bill payer be banned from using the roads ? How could they prevent him running up huge mileage charges ? If the miscreant is paying his domestic electric bills, they won't cut his supply, thus off he trundles each day.

I don't profess to have any answers, just pondering.
The chip built into your car would simply shut down the engine.

I donít think many were against ID cards - I certainly wasnít. It was proposed we had them back in 2006 when the Act got the Roal Assent but the Coalition government was forced by the Lib Demís to scrap it in 2010 and the Act was repealed in early 2011.

Having worked in Belgium for a bit - I saw how they were used and thought them a good idea. After all the Data is still there but held separately by multiple government agencies.

I think scrapping it was another example of the Lib Demís being out of touch as was shown more recently.

oh well now the Lib Dems are out of the picture perhaps Boris and his merry men will introduce them again when Scotland goes independent so that we can check they're not sneaking across the border
