MOT Time......just my luck

Benn preparing for MOT today, new wipers, check bulbs etc etc, got in the car this morning and during the journey to the MOT station my son says "whats that dad?" and was surprised to see a 14 inch crack across the windscreen from bottom towards the top, gutted.
Obviously it failed on this and a headlamp alignment is required, i also got these advisories:

1 Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (good excuse for a stainless).

2 Nearside front brake pipe slightly corroded

3 Offside front (inner) road wheel with a slightly distorted bead rim

4 Nsf tyre uneven tyre wear

So if anyones got any recommendations for decent stainless pipes, any remedial action i can perform on brake pipes to preserve them, and i would guess the car needs the tracking looking at. ( i do feel the car pulls left more than i like).

well, windscreen replaced, went re-test and failed again due to headlight allignment, apparently when they attempted to adjust the headlight the little plastic cog has detached from the metal rod, so i now have twp pieces of plastic in my hand and no MOT.

Anybody have any ideas for repairing this? or am i looking at full headlight replacement?

Thanks for your replies, have removed bumper and lights and have put an offer in for some on the bay.
Looks like no car for me this week, however this may be a good time to do some checks while the front is off, then hopefully move onto thermostat replacement.

Also would like to say that the site is great and will very soon be a paid member, some advice here has probably saved my car (plenum drains).

Know the feeling there galaxyclass, found my MOT was 6 weeks overdue .. had to shell out £250 to get things done. sadly wee get no reminder for our MOT but, I paid the £1.50p for a reminder in future. Beats the hell out of a fine. Mike,

That's an interesting advisory. My tester tells me that any leak constitutes failure. I'd wait and see what happens next year if I were you.

By the way, I'm sure that I've read that the factory fitted exhausts are stainless steel.

The exhaust system will fail if there is a 'major' leak, so i guess its up to the examiner to determine when a minor leak becomes a major one.

Factory fitted exhausts stainless, no......... be nice if they were, but definitly better quality then a lot of after market replacements.

I have an MG Rover launch document for dealers called 'Product insight'. I quote from the section 'Exhaust system':

"The stainless steel construction ensures that the system will last for at least five years."

Apart from the rear silencer, which lasted substantially longer than five years, I still have the original factory system on my car andf it's now 13 years old! To my mind, this tends to endorse MGR's statement.

It could be that things changed during Project Drive. What is the source of your information that they are not stainless steel?
