Default Checking clutch reservoir level

Hi I was routing some cables and had to remove the panel above the pedals and discovered the foam was stained and felt of brake fluid, but I have never had a leak so hope it was when the clutch was done and they spilled some.

So anyway to easily check the level in the master ?

Thanks

Just remove the cap (sometimes needs a bit of persuasion with a long, flat blade screwdriver against the ribs), remove the condom and check the level (mirror is handy). I use a syringe with a bit of plastic tube.(similar to THESE)
others are available! Leave room to replace the condom.

So I can't just shine a torch through it I have to physically dip it to get a level ?

This will work on Tazu masters where the reservoir is white and partly translucent, but some masters have reservoirs made of solid black plastic, so you have to take the lid off and check the level with your finger or some similar probe

There's so little room around the reservoir I doubt you'd get a torch behind it, you can barely get your fingers in to unscrew the cap.

Good luck! I had a leaky slave and had to top up a few times before I got it changed, tore my left hand to shreds!

I use Gunson's Eezi Bleed, discard condom, bleed about 200ml thru slave to replace all fluid in system at about 15 psi (this will help protect slave seals, which is a transmission out job). You should end up with level about 10mm from top of master, use a tight fitting O ring in cap and replace.

Much easier to see what you are doing if you remove both panels, the one you catch with your toes when driving (well my size 9's do) and the second narrower one just below the dash/ wheel.

There is no good reason to refit the condom, once it has been disturbed. Either cut out its centre and refit, or fit an O ring to provide a cap seal.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

If the condom's bottom is removed is there any point sitting an o ring? Maybe its just my cap but I have an air hole / breather where excess fluid dribbles out until the correct level in the reservoir is attained?
