Bhp upgrade
Hi all,
Recently purchased a 2003 tourer which has had the 160bhp upgrade on a T4 by the previous owner. The EGR has also been correctly removed. I am finding the car a little sluggish compared to my previous car, a Laguna estate 230bhp with 206 000 miles on the clock! I'm thinking of getting a Synergy 2 with their MAF as well. Will this give me any improvement in performance? Any advice gladly received! Thanks |

I would have suggested to buy a Jaguar XF V6. If that is not sporty enough, an XF-S. The 75 is the wrong type of car to install more than 160BHP! IMHO, of course. |

Bhp upgrade
I've just read my original post, sorry my Renault was 130bhp, not 230!!!!
Thanks for your reply, I'll try it with the MAFF disconnected and if the performance increases I'll take it from here so will be back for some more advice! |

If you want more power, the next upgrade is a bigger turbo and a richer map, it all depends on what you want, I think a good diesel with everything working as it should is sufficient for everyday use (And i ran a big turbo diesel with nitrous)

If the car feels a bit flat, it'd be worth checking your intercooler o-rings (do a forum search for info), or try unplugging the MAF temporarily to see if that improves performance.

Yeah… when I got mine 11 years ago, it was a bit dead – following advice here, I checked the MAF and found it disconnected. I replaced the MAF’s sensor, and it’s been fine ever since.
I subsequently got the 160 remap, but to be honest didn't really find any difference in performance or economy (the latter carefully measured before and after). Mine was the 135bhp version – maybe the map would produce more noticeable effects on the less powerful original. Quote:
Over the years, I’ve read many Synergy stories here – it seems that it’s little more than a resistor in the line from one of the sensors, giving false info to the ECM, causing it to overfuel a bit… doesn't seem like a great plan. But I’m no expert. Quote:
Oooh didn’t know you could use nitrous with tractors I think there’s limits on what you can do with our diesels – probably not the ideal motor for the speed freak

I would also check out the PCV filter located under the air filter in the plastic housing. This can get blocked over time and is missed on most service checklists. It can not only reduce response feel but can cause a lot of emission problems like black smoke.
Always worth changing anyway as the kit is around a tenner posted from recommended like Dmgrs.co.uk or flebay but remember though you get what you pay for.
