Default Moving to Norfolk later this year - any advice on areas?

The wife and I are looking to buy a house in Norfolk later this year close to Thetford, and just wanted to hear what the areas around where we're looking are like from those who live in Norfolk.

We're currently looking at Watton where there's an estate being built that we like.

An estate in Swaffham is also a possibility.

We've visited Thetford, Watton and Swaffham recently and like all 3 areas, checked out what the high streets and local shopping facilities are like. The areas have to be closer to the south west side of Norfolk, or maybe the north east part of Suffolk.

Be interested to hear from those who live or have lived in or near these areas for any insights?

Cheers
Rick

Love Norfolk, and stay with a friend in Holt several times a year - don't know the area you are looking at so well, but am sure wherever you land you will enjoy it, and I shall be able to visit for some upgrades. Win, win!

Can't offer any direct help.

But....

I gather there's some really rather unusual folks around that area. They have special code names and meet up quite regularly to partake of food and talk about stuff with other code names such as "T4" and "Plenum Drains"

There are other linked groups around the country with their own codes such as "Nano" and "Breakfast meet"

No one really knows what this is all about but the friendships are very real and absolutely solid.

Seriously mate, hope you find somewhere lovely and good luck with the move.

I’m further across and to the South of the county Rick, the countryside in Norfolk is lovely, and generally the weather is dryer and warmer than other places I have lived (it’s nice to be able to use the bike for more than 2 weeks each year)

I’m sure Ian G will spot this and offer some proper Norfolk knowledge..

Love Norfolk, it's our second home.
Our boat is on the Northern Broads at Acle and we love it there. Great village and some great friends/neighbours have been made.

Good luck with the move, you'll love it I'm sure.
Just be prepared for a slower pace of life.....'Norfolk Time' is a thing

I'm in Norwich and i like being closer to the city with all the conveniences that entail. I do have friends who i visit often in Watton and the road into the city isn't bad from and there is a nice set of bends on the road to Dereham especially on a bike . Watton is even sufficiently out of the dark ages so that they have that elastictrickery stuff and even a Subway :p

Hi Rick
I was born at Attleborough and most of our family live in Thetford as did Jan and myself before our west country explorations and we're now back living in Cambridgeshire close to both the Norfolk/Suffolk borders. I know the area as well as most and more than happy to help with information if needed, you probably still have my number so feel free to give me a call if you want to have a chat.
At least "Redfive" knows her way around the area..lol
Cheers Ian

aha be good to meet up with local members in the area. We don't really have local meets down in Essex anymore, they stopped years ago.

The slower pace of life is one of the main reasons why we're looking to move there. We want out of thurrock as it's just too busy here. For a couple years now we've been looking for somewhere more in the countryside and quieter, whilst still having good connections back to Essex and also Milton Keynes where our family are, and found Norfolk to be the perfect place.
