Today I swapped over the maf's and took the car for a spin, it's only slightly better than before, it doesn't perform anywhere near as good as it does with it disconnected, so it looks like a bumper off job to see if something has split or the o rings have swelled or broken on the elbow.

I’ve been running mine with the MAF disconnected for a couple months, at least 1200miles.
No issues so far, no warning lights, no smoke and no adverse change in MPG (43-45).

Try plugging the MAF back in and unplugging the EGR actuator. When you unplug the MAF the ECM disables EGR operation, so a problem with the EGR valve can be masked.

I did this Mike and it doesnt make any difference whether its connected or not, there is an improvement since I replaced the maf but its still not performing as it should.

Trikey plugged his T4 into the car on saturday evening and it identified a faulty egr valve which is probably stuck shut and surprise surprise, a faulty maf, so thats now in the process of being returned.
