Default Sad News-V6 Timing Belt Snapped!

Dear All
I hope you and all welll, which above all other things, is the most important thing and Bob is still breathing!

Firstly, the good news, my lovely ZT didn't breakdown on the smart motorway, also known as the M62 and on Friday and it wasn't raining instead it stopped in the outside lane at 70 mph on a straight bit of the A1 and I did mange to get safely onto the hard shoulder-hence why I am still around! The bad news is that my timing belt broke on the way down to pick my 95 year old Italian mother-in-law up from Manchester to take her shopping!! What a way to avoid a rather feistily old lady!!!
It's up at the local mgrover garage (he has his old V6 ZT parked round the back of his garage just in case someone needs spares!!) and they are going to take the heads off to see just how bad the damage.
it's going to put a very big hole in my bank account, but I am determined to keep it, I have done so much to it!
I'll keep you posted, but if you can point me in the right direction for new head/s etc any advice will be gladly welcome!! I will put something in wanted section as well.

I always try to remain positive about everything, including this and after all it is just a car!!
Best wishes to all
Bob

Ahh Bob thats not good news, all repairable though, I did the same for a local guy last year, his engine had a few bent valves but is running like a dream again once i replaced the heads and built it all up again.

Default Thank you!

Thank you Trikey and I really hope you are well.

Lots hope thats all it is. Found one new cylinder head, just need to find another!! When it happen it was better that a stong cup of coffee!! Fully alert until I managed to get on the hard sholder! 70mph to Zero in about three seconds!!
Apart from heads and gaskets and the likelyhood of replacing bent valves, timing belts etc, what else do you think I will need? I am presuming the heads are different. Belts were 18 months old!

Best wishes
Bob

Default Belt manufacture

I am not sure what make the belts were, I bought them from DMGRS.

This is extremely surprising if it's the job which you said Lates did for you.

It doesn't stop the upset but a Tool and Die Maker friend of mine used to say, "Anything made by the hand of man can fail"
I hope your repair is not too painful.

I had a timing belt fail on a Ford Sierra 2.0 GLSi engine once, and that belt was only a few months old. Luckily it was a non-interference engine. The garage said that what had probably happened was that by a sheer fluke, a small stone had bounced its way around the engine bay and found the tiniest gap in the timing belt cover and ended up between the belt and a pulley.

Again, won't help Bob feel any better, but a common cause of premature belt failure used to be oil contamination from a leaking seal. A leak should be obvious when doing the job, but maybe worth a second glance. Now, this is generally speaking and maybe not even applicable with newer belt materials, but still...

By the way, which belt was it that failed - the main one at the front?
