Wasn't this just a program glitch on a batch of cars, along with the err message occasionally coming up on the tripometer?

Mrs Noc's car does it from time to time but we just ignore it.

If it remains on 5 seconds or more after releasing handbrake, it could mean the handbrake switch is faulty, or the brake fluid is low, so check the fluid first, then think about checking the handbrake switch, i recently sent out one to a member because his switch was playing up.

Now you do surprise me Steve. I've had the diesel for what 6 years and the "brake fault" IPK has only come on every time I start the car in the last few weeks. Having the handbrake on or not makes no difference. Are the Traction Control and Brake Fault lights coming on consecutively not point to a common fault? Does this come down to delving beneath the battery cover and cleaning the modulator plug (?) as somewhere else suggests?
