Default Coolant MIN to MAX - how much?

Well, as titled.

How much coolant is needed to go from MIN to MAX in the expansion tank? (KV6 but I understand they are all the same).

My level was below MIN and went to MAX with about 100ml, I'm doubting that was right as it doesn't seem much at all.

Any knowledge of how much it takes MIN to MAX would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Bolin.

I'd say there's around 200ml difference between Max and Min.

There is very little difference between Max & Min. 200ml is about right. Slightly above Max will make no difference, it will soon settle back to Max after a long(ish) run.

Doesn't take much to top up, it's a small tank. I'm having to top up every day at the moment, for some reason it only seems to lose coolant after a run, as it cools over the following 24 hrs.

In a 1.8T, that's a significant loss and therefore a significant risk. The primary cause of HGF in these engines (or any other engine) is loss of coolant leading to excessive overheat. The 1.8 cooling system is well known for leaks and all are identified in the forum discussions. You may even find a list of them if you do a search.

I've already booked her in for the cambelt and water pump etc. with a request to trace the leak. Doesn't seem to lose coolant during a run (I check like a mad thing), only when she cools. Ought to be a clue but I do not have a haynes what's going on....

Hmm, very interesting that's about 200ml.

On mine, the level was below MIN, there appeared to be hardly any coolant in the tank at all, I put in just over 100ml and covered the MAX, so baled out a very small amount so MAX was visible.

Air lock or something perhaps? I'm absolutely sure I measured it correctly.

200ml sounds to me like there isn't much leeway for loosing coolant and not having too little left.

The Min and Max marks are intended to be points to aim for when it is checked and topped up, there will still be some leeway below the Min mark.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

after the car has been cooling for half an hour check all the hoses, especially the t-piece in the top hose and the inlet manifold, check for dried pinkish residue directly below on the back of the block, use a torch if necessary.

as previously stated on this thread this system cannot afford a drop in coolant charge.
