I have tried the other approach, I do not want nor need European cover, none will make the price less because of this request.

Do you have breakdown cover in the UK? Sometimes that includes some overseas cover,or they may be able to arrange it for you.

I tried a quote from the AA as a member and ex employee. Now the thing that worries me is that if the value of the car exceeds the repatriation cost they won’t bring you home. I think that is standard with most of them. As our cars are mostly 20 years plus they will just see them as old ‘bangers’ as all insurance companies do. As I have the AA’s breakdown repair cover , you can add it to the European cover but that took it up to around £268 covering just France for 2 weeks.

I’ve had some great road trips camping abroad with my tourer exploring France, Spain and my last trip in 2018 to Italy. I’d love to do it again but when you total it all up and with the anti diesel attitude in recent years, it’s just cheaper in most cases to book a package deal somewhere

If your on Facebook have a look on the TF groups, there was a post a few weeks ago about this subject. There is a guy who regularly goes abroad and uses a company that will bring the car back as most won’t due to the cost but I can’t remember which.
Edit… I’ve found the post and it’s a company called cherished vehicle insurance. Unsure if it’s recovery or insurance cover with European recovery
