Driver Front Electric Seat Problem

Hey guys, my little brother loves playing with my front electric seat so much that he decided to fiddle with it incesintly until it broke. Now the seat has stuck all the way forward so no one can get in and drive it. (Where's the Chinese relatives when you need them).

The seat won't move back now. When moving the forward/back switch you can hear the relay click when moving it forward (but doesn't move as fully forward already) but when moving it back a relay doesn't click. When moving the lean adjustment you hear a click, the back of the seat will move but only for a split second and then stop.

Firstly is there anyway of manually moving the seat back? And any one had a problem like this or could have with what might be causing the problem?

The car's a Rover 75 V6 Connoisseur 2003.

Drop Mark 3d a pm he had same problem with his seat if i remember rightly

Hi , There are two black cables beneath front of the seat .These contain short wires similar to speedo drives.Pull the ends off each rail and they can be turned by hand or by a drill to move seat manually.HTH

I'll hunt this guy down. Could a fuse have blown?

Underneath the seat is a large black connector (at least 8 way), seperate this from it's mate for around 10 seconds then reconnect - this has worked for me several times.

Don't know why this works it seems to reset something. There are various posts that suggest there is a "bad" connection.

Never had the problem myself, seats don't really get moved, but I understand from an ex MGR employee that there is a glitch in the software of the seat ecu which causes this fault and removing the power to them for a while can reset it.

Thank you for all the help guys. I tried unplugging said cable and problem was still there. I had a look at the passenger seat and noticed that didn't work as well which made me suspect a fuse. My suspicions were confirmed. Replaced the fuse and they're all working now. Should have really checked that first but at least I now know how to remove a seat

Thanks for the information Jim, useful to know - I might put a switch on the power - as it happened the only time my wife was setting out to drive the car (Bristol to Edinburgh, with a pillow behind her back).
