They can be repaired, but you have to break the lens away from the black plastic that encloses a printed circuit board which the leds are mounted on.

Funny thing, the facelift one has 16 leds, pre facelift has 15 leds. The leds for each version are different though and so is the circuit driving them.

The light itself is interchangeable between non facelift and facelift.

So which of the two is the one which Paul suggests suffers regular failures?

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Ah! good question Harry, I'm not aware of this part being prone to regular failure. However, in my case it was the 16 Led facelift version that failed. I bought a 15 Led pre facelift version to get my car through the MOT ( I could of course just removed HLBL assembly from the rear screen for it to pass).

My HLBL had three Leds that were faulty. I sourced some Leds with the appropriate forward voltage, and replaced them.
