Default Matching Platinum Gold paint code MCN

Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of how hard it is to match MCN paint code.

I have been offered a bonnet by a breakers in Hull, they say they can paint it for me in Platinum Gold MCN. When I asked about the match to the rest of my car they said it wold be no problem as they have done many Platinum Gold panels for various customers.

Tommy :-)

Not done this myself, but someone had "fun" trying to match theirs - http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=249661

The difference from the above thread and the breakers might be rattle can vs proper spray gun. Do they have pictures to show the match?

I had a Platinum Gold (MCN) Rover 75 for seven years (sold this morning). When I got it both the bumpers had been resprayed (badly) and the match was way off. As I have some experiance in paint spraying I ordered paint from a well known paint supplier but again was a poor match. I spent years spraying paint from different suppliers. I even had the front done at a body shop and that was off too.

I could get paint that seemed a good match on the spray card but once on the bumper it looked alright straight on but at different angles it looked a different colour.

Regards John

Plastic or composites take paint differently to other metal parts of the car and there's often a paint mismatch between panels even on new cars straight from the factory. Sometimes some colours stand out more than others

BTW did you know that Paint code MCN should use a black primer IIRC

I had a Platinum gold car and an identical car with only 300 cars difference in Vin was an entirely different colour it can be an awkward colour to match. The only way is to use someone who will match the paint to the car

Thank you for the replies, it helped me come to the conclusion that I should try to get a second hand bonnet. Yesterday I got lucky and found a breaker that had a 2005 car (same year as mine) the bonnet was described to me as in very good condition, no rust and a kind of biege metallic - drove 35miles to get it and low and behold it was in very good condition and a perfect match, you got to get lucky sometime :-)

£60 for the bonnet and free help to fit it there and then! Fitted perfectly nice even shut lines.

So I'm a happy chappy :-)
