Default Rule Britannia

Just read that bbc is considering cancelling Rule Britannia from last night at the Proms. I for one would miss it, I feel so proud when I hear it. Is it not correctness gone mad?

Rule Britannia possibly being dropped is bad enough, Land of Hope and Glory, also mentioned, is worse, imo.

(It’s a conductor from Finland on the ‘last night’ apparently, who has let her opinion be known)

I’d rather they cancel the whole shebang, with there being no audience.

The missing audience is the reason this is being suggested. There will be no everso-bitterly-disappointed demonstrators to create a fuss on the night. The practice will then be absorbed as the new normal. And the Cancellers will be full of glib joy. Another plank of English Oak removed from Victory's deck. Somehow, I don't think Jerusalem was builded here after all.

It's going completely Ga-ga. On LBC Ian Dale was talking to a doctor who was stating that " people of a pale skin shade turning blue" was racist, as" people of darker skin colour", ...didn't.
Further stating that yellowing of the skin of " people of a paler skin shade", was also racist.

The interview is on YouTube.

Despite Ian stating over and over again that cold causes " paler shade of skin", to lead to a blueness occurring, and that Jaundice was the cause of skin yellowing, she just wasn't having it.

That, is one scary doctor I hope I never meet. She should not be in practice, anywhere.

I can see Procol Harum being deleted from BBC playlists then. And poor old Rudolph, he'll be for the chop.

It's just madness, you cannot erase history and also I suspect people jumping on the bandwagon.
I'm going to lock my self away and watch my copy of "Blazing Saddles" until the world comes to it's senses

Well . . . I aways cringed when I heard/watched it. Nelson's been dead for 215 years. Isn't it about time we took a realistic look at Our Place in The World? We've virtually no industry left, our utilities have been sold off to Forriners, even before Covid we had a massive balance of trade deficit - what it's going to be now heaven only knows. Yet, and yet - we're still presumably going to renew Trident (with US missiles) and we have two aircraft carriers with no planes and just six destroyers and 13 frigates. Last I read a fair few of those were immobile due to faulty propulsion systems: they can't fire their armaments and sail at the same time. Rule Britannia?

PS Twenty odd years ago I had a friend who worked in Naval Procurement who said that the Navy didn't want Trident as they said we won't have enough surface ships: we can't have both. I think he was right, don't you?

So why watch it if it makes you cringe? Personally, I can't get enough of that youngster Katie Dereham.

I am beginning to wonder more and more why I bother paying the BBC TV license!
