Default T4 for dummies

Heard yesterday that the old Rover agent in town that had been closed for months was now up for sale. Arranged to meet the manager and offered my assistance to clear things out with an understanding of appreciation.
Filled two cars with boxed parts, although some used spares and a device on a weird trolley - a T4.
Have tried connecting but not getting anywhere, the picture will hopefully provide clues to those better informed. (another message just said "Could not open the configuration file. Contact the help desk").

Grateful for any tips …

It's a Dell Lattitude C600 running W98 and RDS 4.04, and no LANGMAP upgrades are installed to allow the diagnostic disc to run.

I would suggest a new laptop, a fresh install of RDS 5.06 along with LANG map upgrades 1&2, and ensure the LAN settings are correct for the interface

You will love it once you are set up I'm sure

Many thanks for the reply Brian - was hoping you might take pity.

The first bit was understandable, new laptop - easy, but then it got gradually more incomprehensible - think I need to send you a PM.

Sure I will love it once it's up and running as perhaps others within the club will too. As far as I know there's only one working T4 in Sweden.

Regards

Default Update

Almost hate this T4 - a helpful poster from Holland communicated and with his help I connected to the car and ran all the checks, brilliant. I promised to update the poster and tried connecting again today, same car, same laptop and it failed.

Good battery and charger connected.

One clue is that I didn’t see any diode light on the end of the red lead as I think I’ve done in the past, or have I dreamt it?

Anyway if anyone has any suggestions please … here’s the message from the T4.

Regards

Check the pins on the diagnostic lead as they go into the T4 box itself. If you mix up and insert into No.2 with lead No.1 one of the pins can get pushed in easily. A simple fix. If that fails try another vehicle.

Thanks for the reply, wish it were such a simple fix but I haven't moved anything on the T4 machine, all the leads are where they were when I last connected successfully.

I can try another vehicle, but it would help if you can confirm there is a diode on the end of the red lead.

Regards

I would still advise checking the pins carefully.

Can be caused by a bad connection between the diagnostic connector and the socket, try adjusting it slightly and see if it connects

If so the contacts in the diagnostic socket on the car may have spread slightly. The contacts should be visible in the slots, if they aren't then it's possible to reset them using a suitably sized tool. I carry a suitable very small screwdriver with my kit as it can come in handy.
I often find it on cars that have had other things plugged into them as the pins on some of them are too big

Russ

Thanks for the reply, I'll examine the pins as soon as we get a wet spell and I can rest from gardening: 11.5 tons of earth to move.

What gets me is that I'd left all the cables connected since the last successful session, same car, same laptop but now it didn't want to connect.

Would still like to know if there's a diode on the socket end of the red lead, green light if I remember correctly, or is age getting to me?

Keep well

No light on the lead as far as I recall.
