Its amazing how what we used to think of as big cars really arent in comparison to modern cars.
A Granada or Sd1 Rover seemed like a big car but now beside current SUVs they look pretty small.

One of the car mags (Auto Express maybe) some years ago did a comparison of vehicles becoming obese. They went to three iterations (columns). So, for a Clio, column 1 was launch data, column 2, the next facelift of upgrade and, yeah you've guessed it, column 3 for the next launch. I remember the Clio and Golf examples as these did show growth and weight of the various marks.

I think model segmentation and model naming has played its part. The automotive industry will pay big bucks if you can come up with a name for the next model for launch for them such is the scarcity of possibilities.

Marketing segmentation - Fiesta mk1 to begin with, grows into a teenager and thus baby Ka is born.

MY Dad had an identical one, reg was FVX634B. This one must have been first registered on the Isle of Wight, as DL was the unique registration letter for the Island. Still see quite a lot of vehicles with DL. Now the Island is HW.

The Cortina... funny really, only last week I was in discussion with a fella on ebay who is selling a red 1975 MK3 Cortina. I've been trying to negotiate on the price a little, sadly we're not on the same page at present. lol

My father was a huge fan of the Cortina, he must have owned all models back in the day. I was driving his MK2 when I was just 10 years old, on private land of course.

The MK3 GXL with the metal sloping dash was my favourite, one year he filled the sills with concrete to get it through its MOT.

The ‘mini’ is a misnomer now. It is bigger than some cars now. Typical of companies misappropriation of a name.

My 1975 MK3 2000E is back underway again after six years, it's around 85% of a new one so far.

That's excellent news Michael.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics.
