My first car was a 1976 MK3 Cortina. My dad taught me to drive in it. Replaced the bus size steering wheel with a sporty mountny one and swapped out the seats, door cards and wooden dash from a 2000E courtesy of the scrap yard for £60. Happy days.

Comparative sizes of Minis
mini-and-mini-at-the-rally-monte-carlo-historique_100339540_l_zpsnao8cfbh by Rod Thrower, on Flickr My third car was a 1200 Cortina - had to have the strut mounting areas reinforced, as they rotted like crazy in those days. It was a cracking car, complete with Peco big bore exhaust which made it sound a heck of a lot hairier than it was. It met an untimely death when a lorry turned right whilst I was overtaking it

Further to my post earlier in the thread I've dug out an old photo of me sitting on the back of my first car.

My first car was a 1968 Mk1 2-door Escort (OHW 232F).
Always loved the Cortina & almost bought a 1970 1600E in Aubergine (best colour for the Mk2 E in my opinion). torque2me - the Vauxhall Viscount & Ventora were the 'big' Vauxhalls & lovely they are too.....rare now of course! |

My first car was a MK1 Cortina 4dr deluxe saloon in Imperial Maroon 1200cc.
They were family sized cars in their day, it's modern successor the Mondeo will dwarf it without actually being any roomier.
