Default refitting oil filter

OK I've found one of the orange clips from my old Rover 75 and fitted it but I simply cannot get the filter back in

I've made sure the lug is placed correctly but I cannot get the outer metal screwed ring to purchase and screw in, there must be a knack, what could I be doing wrong

God know what else I've NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- up in there now

So much for a simple job!!

Paul
