Looking at the photos Mr Previous Owner rounded them off for you then. Once they get to that stage the only thing I've found that can move them is a mini monkey wrench - mole wrenches tend to slip off.

That was me - I rounded them off after trying heat, plusgas, flare wrenches (three of!) and everything else I could think of. There's no way they were going to come apart.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I am making progress by resorting to cutting the pipe and replacing! So far so good, new pipe installed without too much issue, however a new question has arisen: the replacement hose I purchased doesn't have the protective sheath at the (pipe) end, and the old one had to be cut off. Nor does it have the coil strengthener, but that I can salvage. Have I bought the wrong hose (from Rimmers)? I cannot seem to find these covers sold separately. I presume they are necessary? Again, any advice greatly appreciated!

I use those when I have a problem with rusted up parts. The harder you pull the tighter they grip. If fact they work so well that the end result can just ripping the part into two pieces.--

When I renewed mine recently, I refitted the plastic spring but there's no way to remove and refit the hard rubber sleeve. It's machine fitted and can't be done by DIY. TC |

Here's the state mine were in. No chance of these sleeves coming off in one piece. |

It's easy to fabricate the rubber sleeve from flat sheet and then hold it in place with a couple of cable ties.--
Alternatively slit a piece of round tube and hold it in place in the same fashion.-- |
