Default Remap at home?

I know this may be seen as silly, but I would like to try and obtain a map for my manual cdt (115) that will take it up to a 131 and blow this in at home...

I am aware of the risks that I would be taking - ie. Bricked ECU - but I am still willing to give it a try (obviously after backing up the previous map). Does anyone have a map for a manual 131 cdt?

A few years ago I blew a map into my 607 HDI using my laptop and a kwp2000 - is the process significantly different for Rovers? Has anyone tried this at home before?

I did email the chap who sells them on Ebay and he told me it wont work with a Rover 75, however, I have also read this, which seems to contradict it.

I did PM the poster Keith, didnt get a response, so I would be interested to know if you manage it.

According to that thread you need a donor car with a 131 map that is exactly the same spec as your car to be able to download it from.

If it was possible-cheap and easy, there would be no 116's around.. heh heh...

Thanks for the info, Simon. Looks promising. Let me know if you get a response.

When I uploaded a map into my 607 it was very easy to do. I restored the original and blew the updated map in a good few times in the time that I had it. I would have kept it in if the car wasn't suffering from phantom electrical issues (don't go French :-/ I learned my lesson).

James, IMO, the reason there are 116's around is because people don't have:

1. The know how
2. The equipment
3. The nerve *

* Because at the end of the day, a 1 second click on the mouse could cost hundereds. But with some common sense and basic know how, I don't think it has to :-)

The cost for blowing the map into my 607 was about £30 - that's the kwp and software. And the knowledge just came from a few hours research.

Just my thoughts on the matter. ;-)

EDIT: sorry, I will add - I am not saying the process of tuning a car is easy - the guys who do that work deserve their money. What i am saying is, if we have a 131 map- then the process of blowing it in is easy. That's all. ;-)

Does anyone know if the "ECU Doctor" can recover bricked ECUs that have ben corrupted by messed up downloads?

I've used the galletto 1260 om my CDTi worked fine, however the map I used appeared to decrease my fuel economy by an amount I was not prepared to tolerate - not a good map!

So, could I ask where you bought your map from please?

I think it depends on how the map was interrupted.

Always thought the cheapest way to improve the M47 engine, was to fit a tuning box. Safer than trying a remap yourself too!

Well I do have a Ron box. But since the only difference between the 131 and the 115 is software, it seems a shame not to utilise it's potential. For example, the M51 engine in the 325TDS has an intercooler, where as the 325TD doesn't. I just find it amusing that the increase in bhp isn't a hardware modification in the M47.

I wouldn't say the box is cheaper though. A galleto is about £12 and the map file - well that depends on whether you get a manufacturer 131 file or if you pay for a performance one. But it's no where near the box. Wouldn't be without the box though. ;-)

Does anyone have a 131 manual map file? :-)
