Default Door mirrors

As the wife has broken my drivers side door mirror (it had already broken but she knocked it and it fell off so I am not telling her!) I am on the lookout for another. Where there two types of mirror fitted as I see refernces to "bullet" mirrors?

Bullet mirrors were fitted to the earlier cars, more robust with metal housings

The later skull cap type which were fitted to cars until the end of production, they have more plastic parts a break quite easily, try a search on here for a 'how to' for a repair to these mirrors..

Also when replacing the mirror you do not have to take the entire door card off. The bullets look much better and as Pab says, a more robust construction...The third picture is the tweeter being unplugged.

Cheers

Many thanks, I have the early bullets. I have already repaired the mirror once. Will try again when I have five minutes! The info about removing the trim to gain access is very usefull, thanks.

It's a lot quicker and I forgot to mention that you will need to wedge the trim open a wee bit once loose to get to the bolt, unless you have three hands .

Cheers

I'm I correct in saying that the picture shows the mounting bolts for scull cap mirrors and that bullets have slightly different mounting bolts?

Tommy :-)

Hi Tommy, if my memory serves me right the bolts looked different but fit snug, old one out and the bullet straight in with no problems.

Cheers

You are correct, skull caps use 3 bolts, bullets use two bolts and one nut
