Default Car not starting...

Guys

First time I've had this problem on my Rovers so want to make sure I diagnose it correctly...

Its on my '52 V6 connie 2.5 petrol

Firstly there has been absolutely no indication of problems at all, the car has started first time since I got it 10 months ago.

Turned the key this morning and it turns but doesn't fire, not even a tiny bit. I tried again waiting a few seconds until the fuel pump buzz was heard and tried again, the same.

The tank was half filled a few day ago and done only 35 miles since so should be plenty left (the guage show half full)

Took off the air filter cover and found liquid in the rubber hose connecting it to the carb, smelt like petrol, is this unusual?

Added Bradex to the air intake, it fired for a second or two then nothing again.

The only weird problem I've had in the last few days was that the range on the IPK was 1000 miles although the tank was almost empty, this rectified itself once I added fuel.

Cant really find a lot of obvious places to spray WD40 either.Checked the plenum and its dry.

Any suggestions as to what else I can check to determine what it may be, or at least narrow it down

Cheers

Paul

1. When you turn her over does the rev counter move at all ? If not then it will be your crank sensor. But as you are getting a reaction from easystart then i think not -but an easy one to discount.

2. I think your car falls in the scope of cars that may suffer fuel filter separation - do you know if the fabled orange clip has been fitted to the fuel filter - search the site for FFS/FOC - i think 02 Registration maybe the cross over to the new style filter which is prone to this issue causing non start and stalls if it this its a 5 quid fix .

Yep the rev counter moves

As for the FFS/FOC issue I don't know what had been fitted, where do I need to look?

Cheers Paul

This is quite normal . It is condensed oil fumes from the breather system , running down from the throttle body ( not the carb - it's fuel injection ).
Just clean it out once in a while ; they all do that

Under back seat drivers side - if the filter housing has a honeycomb top then it is a fuel filter prone to separation - see if an orange or white clip has been fitted around the filter housing this sufficient to maintain the integrity of the filter - if not i would fit one if you have the honeycomb top -see link below

Found it!!

No Orange clip so I've ordered one on ebay

Hopefully even with my clumsy hands this will be an easy fit!

Cheers

Be careful not to disturb the O ring - if that is not sitting properly when you place the filter housing back it will cause starting issues as well and they also deteriorate over time and sometimes need replacing so bear that in mind - some folk replace the O ring at the same time as the clip -however the clip will come with fitting instructions.

Caution !!!! The filter module is on the passenger side , assuming you have a RHD car
On the driver's side is the pump unit , which does not require a clip.

My mistake - cant tell left from right - would have sworn it was RHS - but as you say thats where you listen for the fuel pump priming.
