Oil Separating filter
Hi - any ideas on this one?
I met a chap recently who told me that there is an oil separating filter lurking somewhere below the air filter of the BMW diesel engined 75's. There is no mention of it on this Forum as far as I can see nor anything in the service manual BUT he says he found out about it when his dip stick blew out of its socket! Apparently, this is a service item on the 2.00 litre BMW diesel saloons with the same motor & has resulted in some severely damaged engines when the filter has not been replaced soon enough. This chaps Tourer was used as a taxi and had 85,000 on the clock - presumably used for lots of short journeys! |

BMW use this terminology for the PCV filter which is widely talked about on the forum.

Many thanks for your help on this - I got the filter kit fro Jules which turned up next day and I fitted it this morning - straightforward enough - took about an hour or so, I notice that the old filter - the original one with 90k on it was dry and it looks as if the oil/ carbon bakes onto it so will eventually clog up completely so I caught mine in good time.
Special thanks to Jules for quick service and easy installation instructions. |
