Angry Camshaft Oil Seal pop-out after few minutes after fixed

Hi:

This is happening since yesterday, one of the previously installed (left bank about 3 years ago after time belt change) Camshaft Oil Seal just pop-out from the Camshaft Front "hole". Well, I just wrap a new one from my shack, re-inserted nice and neet, and just 3 minutes after the engine was running the new one also "pop-out" like a cork from a champagne bottle.

So here I´m without a clue of what it´s happening, what can cause so much pressure to be able to push-out this cap?.

Any ideas where to start to look?

I suspect the cam cover breathers are blocked. There are lots of threads on this which you'll find if you use the search system.

Hi T-CUT:

Yes, I was thinking that something was related with the cam cover breathers, but I what to be sure where to start. I´ll be looking at how to check & fix those. I may imagine that the RH Bank must need a check/clean too.

Thanks, mate..!!!

Kind regards
Joel Antonio.

Joel, are you certain that you have pressure? Now that the cap has popped out, can you feel anything against the palm of your hand?

Check the cap for damage when it was removed. Is it cracked?
How hard was it to push back in? If you could do it very easily by hand then the cap needs replacing.

Hi Simon:

The cap was a brand new out of the bag, I had to use a plastic hammer to put it in. I had to remove the front bumper and the RH headlights to get plenty of room space to manage the insertion of this new cap. By a pressure I can't tell you nothing yet but I will check Friday in the afternoon. About that what's if I feel "air/gas" coming out? It's in deed a blocked breather?

Kind regards
Joel Antonio

My guess is that you thought that you'd hammered it fully home, but you hadn't. I've attempted this and new caps are incredibly difficult to fit. I very much doubt that you'd succeed with a plastic hammer.

Further evidence is that many of us have blocked crankcase breathers but it doesn't cause the camshaft cap to be ejected. There's a bearing behind the cap.

I would have another go at refitting it but this time devise a lever to push evenly over the cap's surface. Keep checking the sides to make sure that the cap remains centralised.

Confused here Simon. Are you saying that over-pressurisation of the crankcase is not the cause of cam caps blowing? If so, then what is the cause?

Regards

Popping out 'like a cork from a champagne bottle' sounds like pressure to me.

I gave up trying to fit new cam end covers and refitted the used ones. They have stayed in for several thoudand miles though I'd prefer to have fitted new ones. Perhaps only possible with the engine out?

No , it's quite possible but it is awkward
As said above , you need to devise a lever to press them in squarely . A 12" or so length of 2"x1" as the lever and a shorter length to provide a pivot braced off the inner wing . If they are not fully home or not square , they will come out !
