Default new clutch dudley recommendations

hi,
i need a new clutch on a 2.0 petrol 2000 w reg. does anyone know of a cheap mechanic or fitter in the black country/ birmingham area, i am aware of a1 clutches but just trying to find cheaper still given the nice time of year its happened!!
if i buy clutch kit of e bay and hire recommended mechanic to do job maybe able to afford it. these things never happen when its convenient hey...
is it much difference in price to have slave done as well? i know its weak spot but funds are the deciding factor for the next couple of weeks.
i get paid on the 7th and looking to get it done then, dont fancy using buses for to long...lol
thanks in advance you lot always seem to come through.
merry christmas

Hi Russell, bad luck on the clutch. False economy if you don't have the slave done, it lives in the bellhousing so if it goes later, all out again.

Definitely worth doing the slave at the same time.......yes I know it's more money but it's such a big job to do it's pointless only doing half:weihnacht2:and in any case the slave is what they call a concentric which includes the release bearing & you should never put a new pressure plate in with an old bearing

im pretty sure its clutch, amateur,
1st=really stubborn, and im not a small bloke.
2nd=will not engage,just crunches away...
3rd=engages, feels very sloppy though
4th=ok
5th=ok, can remove from gear without engaging clutch
clutch bite very high, half inch from top.
I HOPE ITS THE CLUTCH NOT THE BOX...
has been getting progressively worse until got stuck in cul de sac and could smell burnt clutch in cab, wheels where spinning in deep snow did not apply clutch but smell filled cab quick enough, reversed out pulled away and thats when 2nd gear went on vacation. as its been getting worse every day not convinced it could be linkage as first thought. will book into a1 as soon as they open again, just hoping for someone cheaper really, and yes will get slave done to, one of you said 320 for diesel and im sure they are the same box so should be similar price, looks like payday loan though......

Luckily, or cleverly, my rovers are automatic. Yet there seems to be a solution I have not heard about, maybe you have not either, It was pointed out to me by a German Rover owner who has installed a couple of my metal thermostats, try this:http://forums.xpowerforums.com/showt...t=31042&page=6
Hope it works!!
