Car is dead. Not a good day...
Car died today on the A2... was cruising along at 70mph, then suddenly car wouldn't accelerate - then the oil light flickered a bit followed by engine cut out. Managed to coast onto the hard shoulder. Wouldn't restart.
AA turned up after just 30 mins, and asked me to turn it over, which I did. I couldn't hear the engine (noisy road) but he said it sounds like something is broken, and it's not a quick fix. His comment on the form is "Engine U/S" Had it towed to Apple MG in Meopham and it's with them now, hopefully they will figure out the problem today. I have the AA Breakdown Repair Cover so the first £500 of any repair is covered... I'm hoping it's just a pump or something, but worst case scenario I guess would be new engine required...

About two minutes before it happened, I did notice a momentary hesitation with the throttle as I overtook someone... so I'm thinking possibly fuel pump.

Could be anything but 2 questions
1 How much fuel in the tank? 2 What's it been starting like lately make that 3 3 Has it got a Synergy? If it was low on fuel ie 1/4 or under then it might be a pump If it's recently churned on a bit before starting then it might be injector leakback (similar symptoms when mine went) If it has a synergy then disconnect & put back to standard as they can emphasise faults due to the nature of the way they work Just a couple of suggestions |

Mine did that and it was the under bonnet pump. Got MG Rover one from Jules. Perfect since!

Filled up with fuel a few days ago, still got 3/4 of a tank. Car has been starting absolutely fine, immediately on first turn of the key. I do have a Synergy connected, but it's switched off.

loss of crank sensor signal would cause ecu to cut the engine , it,s a possibility and should be checked along with fuel supply.

Symptoms remind me of old posts about original fit MAF sensors getting a bit worn and then road spray finishing them off. And the A2 has plenty of spray.

Sounds like mine when the high pressure pump failed. Hope yours is something simpler.
