What car are you insured on? 2003 2.5 Connie Auto
What company are you insured with? Admiral Multicar (see below) What is your insurance costing you? £428 What age are you? 49 What gender are you? Male What country/area do you live? South Manchester How many years ncb? 15 (see note below) Is it protected? yes Car value? 2500 Whats the millage limitations? 6000 Any policy restrictions / benefits? Legal - wife named driver Fully comp / third party etc? Fully Comp £150 excess Penalty points? none Declared mods? none An interesting point I found reading through this thread were the quotes received by several young drivers. I have a 19yr old son, who only drives a Fiat Punto 1.2 - and the quotes are well over £1500. Would love to know the magic formula how young drivers on a Rover 75 get quoted so low. Decided to go with Admiral Multicar as what was important for me was the bottom line cost of insuring the Rover AND the Punto for my 19yr old (his renewal comes up next week). Listing my son as the main driver on the Punto (so no insurance fronting - a very dangerous game to play) with myself, my wife and my wife's brother as "occassional" drivers I got a quote of £428 for the Rover (myself and wife as named drivers) and a quote of "only" £635 for the Punto (11 months coverage) - equivalent to £692 annually. Punto is fully comp but with a high excess if my son is driving. So £492 + £692 = £1184 annual equivalent FOR BOTH CARS. The best price I was able to get for the Punto alone was £1450 !! And this was a £300 increase from last year - and touch wood, my son has had no points or accidents in his 2 years driving. So I am paying FOR BOTH CARS the same amount I was paying for just the Punto last year - so for me, Admiral is insuring my Rover virtually for free. RE: NCB - It has been pointed out that insurers only recognise up to 9 years. In fact I noticed on the renewal for the Rover from my previous insurer (AVIVA) it just states 5 years or more - even though I now have 15 years NCB. When doing the admiral multicar quote, the difference between entering say 9 years NCB vs 15 years NCB was about £60 less. I did note that anything over 15years, the quote remained the same. Admiral advised me that when I send in the proof of NCB (which will only show 5 years or more) they will accept this as proof of 15years provided, if needed, I could prove it. Fortunately, I have kept renewal paperwork going back to 2002 (where I had 7 years NCB) and would be able to prove it. But it does seem a very nasty trick by the insurers - I had noted for example, that I was with Hastings for 5 years (2002 - 2007) and each year it only shows 7 years NCB rather than adding 1 year each renewal - as Hastings Maximum discount is based on 7 years. It is useful to exchange quotes but so many factors go into deciding rates - about a mile from where I live there is a roundabout where a known gang was purposely stopping short at the roundabout to cause rear end collisions and claim compensation for injuries. As we know - if you hit someone from behind - you are at fault. It's pathetic - but that's how the insurers work. Well they caught the gang (after 2 years) - but our postcode is now considered a "high risk" zone - and our insurance rates have gone up due to this (among other reasons too no doubt).
