Question theoldcodger 75 1.8 turbo

Does anyone know if it's alright to fit a back box for a 2.0l V6 to a 1.8 turbo. a local exhaust fitter did so & since then the exhaust has boomed a lot. Any answers appreciated.

Why didn't he fit a back box for a 1.8 Turbo? The OEM exhaust systems were designed per engine and not meant for mixing. After market systems are a different thing entirely. They will not match the sound deadening performance of the MGR system. That applies whether they are engine specific or otherwise.

No it isn't. As TCut says, exhaust systems are designed to match the characteristics of a particular engine. It might even be the case that the pipe diameters are different between the 1.8T and 2.0 litre KV6.

E-mail X-Part (a member of this forum) or an independent motor factor and ask them if the part number is the same for both engines. If it isn't, take the car back and ask the exhaust centre to supply and fit the correct part. The section they have fitted will be "not fit for the purpose" so they are required to put the matter right.

It just shows by opening your mouth too fast you can get your foot in it!
The 1.8Turbo and the 2.0V6 do indeed share the same back box! My apologies.

Part Number WED000551P http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-WDE000551P

The comment about non-MGR parts still holds.

Have changed the rear box on a 1.8 and it was a lot more noisy, yet did the same on my diesel and no difference. Both were aftermarket boxes.

I've heard of other owners who have had noisier aftermarket 1.8 rear boxes - was yours an OEM replacement?
