urgent broken down
Hey, I have just broken down. At first I thought it was the underbonnet pump as disconnecting and reconnenecting it makes it start. The pump is running as I can hear it. However when it stops, the rev counter goes to zero straight away so im now thinking cam or crank sensor. Any thoughts? I'm not at home. It is a cdt auto with 81k miles. Is anyone in or near Swindon able to give me the number of someone (breaker?) who may have these two sensors in stock? Also, I've not changed them before, are they easy to get to without much dismantling? Ie can I do them on the floor?

Hi' Phil I dont think its either sensor, as you say it starts then stops.Have you listened for the in tank pump its under the rear o/s seat it should run for a few seconds when you turn the ignition on.

The above poster is near to you, that was handy.
Does the car start with easy start? If so, does it continue running or stop when the fuel runs out? ... |

It has a full tank of fuel. The fact the rev counter goes to zero instantly and there is no dying as it gets starved of fuel makes me think its a sensor. I think it needs a signal from the crank sensor all the time when running so it knows when to inject fuel etc.

I have no easy start to hand. I am not at home. I think its a crank sensor myself. Really annoying as I have only had it a couple of weeks.

If the rev counter moves when you crank the engine then that would suggest that the crank sensor is working.

Good point well made. Trouble is, apart from twice, it restarts straight away. Neither of those times did I take any notice because I was on the dual carriageway.

I don't have any of that either. I'm stuck in a car park. A recovery did come but his computer was too new/basic to talk to a 52 plate diesel. The AA, who I originally called and they subletted it are now coming.
