A note on part numbers
Just a quick note when looking for part numbers for our cars.
A recent question about side impact sensors prompted this post. The part number on impact sensors is the sensor on it's own, not the service level as the come with new fixings as per SRS component replacement regulations. So you won't find it at service level. Another common question is with some parts where a part number may be cast in to a component. There again, you will not find this at service level. That is the bare casting number before it has undergone various machining levels and sub assemblies. So may well be 4 or 5 part numbers down the line before it gets to service level. On the other hand some part numbers on some components are the trackside assembly level. So if you may have a label on something like a suspension component, that could well be the trackside assembly of a full setup including shocks, springs, hubs etc. Or a full dashboard assembly
