What's the difference between KV6 and 25K4F

Hi,
I'm not sure I understand, and I couldn't find the information anywhere: what's the difference between the two?
As far as I can see, everyone of the forum speaks about a KV6, I can find KV6 at different online parts sellers, but I can also find the 25K4F engine designation. Which mine is, according the any VIN decoder, and to the registration papers.

So is anyone able to shed some light?

The lettering makes no sense.
If they had defined number 4 as 16valves, that a 2.5 it’s obvious the wrong designation, and should be 25K6F
Also, the attached picture is wrong in terms of engine codes, P55 and P56 saying the same thing. And mine it’s an auto with code P56.

Anyway, asuming this information, if I chose my car being a 25K4F or KV6 when ordering parts online, will that be ok? Do they really mean the same thing?

My 75 was manufactured probably in the last batch of 2005, being registered in 2007

Yes, it says so.

But why use the '16 valves' term? Why complicate it?

That's just an example surely? It just underlines the fact that it's a multivalve set up

Quite so. The number of cylinders would be a more logical term, since all K-series have 4 valves/cylinder anyway.
However your engine is definitely a 2.5 litre KV6, so order parts on that basis. Rimmer/Xpart use this teminology for all engines.
