a whine from under the bonnet

hi to all
i recently changed the clutch on my 75 cdti tourer and when i start the engine i can hear a whine i have tried to listen to find out where the whine is coming from and it is more prominent sitting in the passenger seat and looks like it is coming from the passenger bulkhead unable to pin point the noise i bought a steathoscope had it today so i listened to see if i can hear where the noise is coming from listened to the gearbox starter motor power steering pump and the abs pump and it looks like it is coming from the abs pump now my question is does the abs pump make a noise and is the pump on all of the time
