Default Car ramps

I'm after a set of car ramps - any recommendations?? Don't want to spend a fortune but also don't want the car landing on me either! Plus they need to be low profile or I need the attachments. I've looked at quite a few and as always the reviews are mixed bags so would be good to hear from someone who's bought some relatively recently and is happy with the build quality?

If you have a lot of 18mm osb3 you could make your own.

It really depends on what you want to spend. For example, I've been asking Santa for a set of these for years:

I'm conscious these are rather expensive too, so Sealeys, Halfords & Clarke are the usual names to have a look at. I got a set with run-ups from Machine Mart.

But as I have never really trusted wheel ramps after one of them began to collapse while I was under a motor, axle stands are of course still essential.

I also really want a pair of these along with my standard axle stands.

I can't give specific recommendations but make sure that you can actually get them up to the front wheels. The front bumper is quite low and the wheels themselves are a long way back from the front of the bumper.

I've made some "extra" sections that clip onto my ramps to make a sort of dual angle ramp which fits under the bumper right up to the wheel.

Hope that makes sense - I'll see if I can get a photo if you'd like one.

Happy shopping.

There's an old saying in the club..."If they are good enough for Artic they are good enough for me!".
Well, if there isn't one there should be.

That is kind of you guys, the ones from Halfords i would recommend, they have been used with my MGZT, Rover Tourer, Freelander 1 and Freelander 2 and still are going strong, they could do with a fresh lick of paint mind.

Personally I would never go under a car - on axle stands or ramps - without a secondary support in case of failure. I always worry about weld failure etc.

One of my best car related purchases was a 3.6mx250mmx125mm sleeper which was cut into 400mm lengths. This gives enough pieces to securely support a car.

I also purchased a 6.0m length of 220mmx50mm construction timber board and cut this into 400mm and 800mm lengths to use on top of the sleepers to obtain the correct height.

Hi Maninder.
Sounds very safe but also a lot of hard work, for us old boys, i doubt also that four ramps would fail in one go, and you can always back the ramps up with axle stands on the subframes if you wished, i have confidence in my ramps and as always inspect your tools and ramps before using them take no time at all.
