Sunroof Drain Pipes
I’ve recently been cleaning these out, and have a suggestion to put forward.
Dealing with the pipe joint alongside the fuse box, and the other 3, I have frequently read that MGR should have used something better than a few turns of PTFE tape to ensure a good fit. I certainly don’t disagree with this, but would question if indeed it was ever intended to make, or to improve, the fit. Could it have been to enable a visual inspection, that the upper pipe had been fully pushed into the lower, larger diameter pipe. i.e. white tape visible, pipes not fully pushed together? Regards Mike

Absolutely, and I'm not excusing it at all; simply wondering if MGR even recognised the weakness.

That is the sad part of the Rover story. Surely somebody DID recognize the faults. And surely some other bodies DID NOT LISTEN!
There is no ways in a several hundred years, that you could push out about 300000 models, and not get valid feed back. It is a classic story of somebody too stuck up to take advice. What happened when the Chinese took over? they gathered some of the engineers and technicians and said OK, what would you change to get this K4 engine right?? And they did that and they got it right. It should have happened with Rover, but it didn't! It is a crying shame that the Wilks brothers were not in charge. Rover would never have gone under, had they had people like them at the helm! But, I guess it is symptomatic of the modern age. Now whole societies are going under in a slow sink, people have lost belief, common sense, logical thinking and pride. It is just one ungodly mess.
