It's not even the fact that I don't know the route as I know the majority of Devon really well, I just can't put my finger on why I feel like this.

But taking a flask out and planning a short trip somewhere is best way to go, plus I can take my camera because I used to really like photography and have done so little in that department for a couple of years now.
It a shame you are so far away Neil as we could do with you for when the puff adder, king cobra or scorpion happen to drop into the house. We give them a wide berth but have had to resort to shooing them out with a long handled broom or failing that a ranger is available who specialises in catching them. I usually check my shoes and bed sheets for the scorpions before getting in I dabble now and again in photography Neil and if you get the chance, I would enjoy seeing photos of Devon, the meets you are planning to go to Do post them up should you have the opportunity.

I used to hate public speaking and would break out in a cold sweat at the start. I learned that the more often I did it, the easier it became. Funny if you saw me doing it, you would think what a calm and kool guy, it looks so easy lol Some would run away and I would end having to do their work. One learns little tricks to get you through, to make things easier and simpler. I would say to myself "to hell with it and to hell with them legging it, then just go for it".... It was part of my job to teach and also to present cases for discussion. I confided in a really good friend, who was also a health professional. He helped me 1:1 Another friend is a member of a social phobia group in London, mostly they work in I.T, a small mixed group of 12. Horses and different courses. They help each other with target setting, similar to the step by step targets Peter referred to

Club Triumph and TSSC, of which I was a member of both, were absolutely great. Can't speak highly enough of them. My main problem was at shows. Full of experts who can tell what diff ratio was used between 1972-1975 on a blah blah etc. I just got tired of being scolded by them for fitting a part not from that model and having to justify myself constantly. It sounds petty but, after a while, it begins to infuriate. Also, I once sold a car I built from scratch (Dolomite Sprint) and the guy who bought it touted it as being built by himself, eventually being caught out since I sign and date every car I build in a secret place. I've even donated parts to people who, after I heard their sob story, took no cash and just gave them away to find the items on eBay the day after for lots of money. Yes, it's up to them what they do with it but it's bad form in my book. Things like that just annoy me.

Clearly, not everybody involved with classic cars is bad, the vast majority being good folks, but I've met my fair share of 'slappables' and my age-related tolerance of others' folly is depleting. I am rapidly becoming a fully paid-up misanthropist. And don't get me started about my stint with Triumph Stags - that's the closest I came to hurting someone physically.

Model aircraft? Same thing - chock full of gits. (apologies to non-gits)
Motorcycling? Put an accountant in full leathers and he becomes drunk on idiocy. I now ride alone and love it.
Guitarists? It's a constant pee-ing contest. Gets tiring.
HiFi? Lord knows, they love a debate. Get into valve gear and the heated debate/slagging rises expontially.
Wine and foodies? - we're entering another realm of divisiveness entirely.

Clearly, generalisations but it's just my own personal experience.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.
Stag Owners Club? I have to agree. I also run one and dared to post "has anyone tried fitting ABS to improve the brakes?" The vitriol I received was unbelievable. Some said I should learn to drive - I've never had an insurance claim for 50+ years. Others said ABS was the worst invention ever. When I asked if these folk sliced through the sensor on their modern car I had no reply. Apparently my innocent query produced more response than anything ever before.

The way I look at it is, why not?
It's your car!
Do what you think is best for your car.
Naturally you are thinking about safety here and ABS does exactly what it's designed to do, stop you quickly without getting into a skid.
My old Accord had ABS and I know first hand that if it hadn't had it fitted then the kid on the moped would have been splatted across the road, thankfully I stopped in time.
Even though it was his fault, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I had caused him harm.
Hopefully he learnt a lesson that day!

How about "shooting brake" or "sport back"?

Neil. I have been a member of a few car clubs and quite a few car forums. In my experience if you are treated like that then you find another club. This said, i have not had a problem with the forums i have joined and help run over the years. This forum is probably the best one i have joined. Looking round everybody seems nice and helpful and its all about the love of the cars, not the love of the ego.

Ref Triumph Stags. They are nice cars when fitted with the Rover 3.5 V8 engine and auto box innit..
