Default My 75 won't start (2.0 Diesel)

I've had my 75 since last Aug with no probs, drove round to the mother in-laws, got back in the car, turned on the ignition, all the right lights came on including 10,000 service message, the engine turned over but just would not start, it didn't even fire. I changed the battery in the key, as this was playing up a bit, total mystery. The only thing I did before I arrived at Mum's was to fill up, I checked the till receipt, yes it was definitely diesel, any ideas, or is there a sequence I can follow to eliminate the obvious. Hope somebody can help. TX Al
