I made a Rover 75 Review!

Hi Everybody,

Some of you might remember me, I used to be fairly active around here on the forums, usually trying to find the source of a various rattle or leak. I haven't shown my face around here in a long time, because my old 75 (the one in the flair) went to the great scrapyard in the sky a few years ago (unfortunately I had to make the decision between a house or the 75)

I've decided to make a YouTube channel, I'm rather obsessed with cars, so I thought I may as well try and document them. That way I can justify silly purchases to myself, right?

I've made a video about my current daily driver 75, bear in mind it's not half wrecked compared to my old one, and it's probably on borrowed time. The review/road test is a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but if you have some time in your day to listen to me ramble endlessly about the 75, I'd really appreciate you giving it a watch, and letting me know what you think in the comments!

As I said in the video, the 75 really does have an ace owners club, glad to see it's still very active.

Amusing watch. I liked that you didn’t edit out the camera falling off the car! I’d have a go at fixing the probs before the mot and keeping it going. Plenty of help on here. Smoke could be intercooler hose or o rings, or maf sensor (try disconnecting). Most of the others probs could be sorted with a trip to the breakers and bit of ingenuity. Good luck.

Thanks for checking out the video, I do have *some* time to check out the issues, it would be a shame to get rid of the old thing, so I may as well get stuck in. It's done me very well so far!

Interesting and honest review there Cai. It’s always nice to see our cars still on the roads being driven. They are around 25 years old now some of them, and that they are still fighting on is testament to the original design and build quality.

Old Father Time though and neglectful previous owners take their toll on the appearance and functionality of many examples including your Copperleaf diesel it seems. But if you still love the car, a lot of those niggles can be fixed at reasonable expense.

I think the old adage that if you look after a car it will look after you is true.

BTW time to update your forum signature perhaps?

What I am doing with mine, nearly 22 and going strong - touch wood - just need to get my ipk screen replaced which is not easy to do.

Cheers Reebs, my 75 really is showing its age now, though I *hope* to put it through MOT and hopefully keep the thing on the road for another year if cost effective. Like you said, if I love the car, those issues can hopefully be rectified for a reasonable cost. Aside from my old Peugeot 406 (Which was brilliant), the 75 has probably been the cheapest daily driver I've owned.

I'll definitely get round to editing that flair! I don't even own an SR125 anymore...

My father had 2 SD1s in succession, the first an early (R reg) 3500 in white (with ghastly brown velour interior), and the second a V8S (W reg) in black with every extra available. Never had much trouble with them, and our next-door neighbour bought the white one from him, before buying a red Vitesse. The V8S was kept even though Father regarded it as a tin can when he bought his last car, a Jaguar 4.2 Sovereign. I inherited both, and still have them, garaged and only used rarely, and in dry weather. The V8S has not yet reached 30,000 miles (genuine), but really ought to be moved on as I simply don't have time to use it. It was the car that sparked my love of Rovers (although I prefer my Triumph 2500TC to the P6), and I have subsequently owned 9 Montegos (all 2 litre GTis) 3 800s, 2 R8s and 3 1.8 45s. Which brings me to my 4 75s, 2 ZTs which I hope to see me out!

Very interesting! I'd absolutely love to drive (or even own) an SD1, it'd be a brilliant vehicle to review, it's one of my favourite cars. As I said in my video, even when quality was debatable, Rover could still design an excellent car, and I really think the SD1 not only looks the part, but is a really under-appreciated bit of British motoring history. If you end up selling that SD1 at some point, give me a shout, because I may well be interested if I can find the funds...

Just watched your YouTube video and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good to see a car like yours (and mine) that's used as a daily transport.
Mines getting long in the tooth and showing signs of patina but it's been so reliable over the the last ten years.Its never failed me once over that time to start.
